Everyone needs help once in a while with credit problems. Credit repair services advertise that they are there to help anyone fix their credit problems and are willing to give free information about how to improve credit scores. This is very important, especially for people who have bad credit and want to make a major purchase. Be very wary, however, of companies claiming to be able to erase your bad credit record because if your credit rating is accurate, it cannot be erased. These companies will claim to be able to restore your credit and help you get rid of bankruptcies, charge offs, collection agency actions, judgments, late payments, liens and all kinds of bad credit situations.

These companies are really in the business to make money but not necessarily for you. They generally charge large fees to help you in your goal to raise your credit rating by getting rid of your bad credit. They claim to specialize in bankruptcy problems and say that they can magically get rid of your bad debt. Before even considering using one of these companies, do your homework and find out all you can about them. Make sure that you are entirely comfortable with them and that they can provide references from past and current customers. Beware of false feshop (like being able to save you thousands of dollars a year.) You can completely avoid using these companies by simply following a few simple steps to resolve your own credit problem. And, you will save money as your credit score will improve because of your efforts and you won't have to pay a credit repair company to do the leg work for you.

To start repairing your credit, you will need to request a free credit report from one of the three national credit bureaus. When you receive it, look it over carefully to find any negative information. This negative information is what you need to focus on as you start on your journey to a better credit rating. Fix any inaccurate information immediately by submitting a credit report dispute letter. Next get current on all past due accounts. Call your creditors to see if you can arrange a payment schedule with them. Keep the balance on your credit cards to 30% of your limit. And, focus on bringing down any balances that are over your limit. These are just a few things that will help you repair your own credit and you will not need to pay high fees for a credit repair service.
